When will the eating slow down?
Paige:
^horace^ ^horace^ Oink, Oink,
I have one year, one month and four days clean from cigarettes. And I am eating way too much. I have gained 19 lbs. I know different topic, different message board.
Just wondering how you all are handling the eating (if you are having any problems with it)?
Oh and by the way, I have not been this grateful for probably 10 years. Not smoking today is a miracle.
thank you for being here.
Paige

Gratitude is a wonderful thing.
Make a decision to eat healthy......
You can do that one day at a time.

Hey Paige, glad to hear you've been quit so long. I'm new on this forum, and I must say it gives me a good dose of encouragement to me to keep going.
If I may put in my .02, I agree with David, healthy foods are great (and low in fat), although when you're addicted (like most of us are) to sugary and fatty food, it can take a little bit of adjusting to. Try to add at least one more health food (fruit, veggies, legumes, etc...) to your shopping list each time you go. Also, I try to remember to chew food thoroughly (30-40 times per bite) as this helps to begin digestion, you can enjoy the subtle flavors more, and you can learn when to stop (even leaving some of your plate for leftovers), as you tend to get full faster.
Good luck, and keep up the quit!

Well, ***welcome*** to AS3, Paige! Over a year smober already is wonderful, but being able to talk about how it feels 'on the other side' is always helpful as it is really a Brave New World for most of us. Smoking does do a lot more than just wreck our health. It makes us poor. I keeps us focused on IT instead of our own lives. It keeps folk from wanting to know us sometimes. And it certainly does make us smell like shit. So, yes, being smober is really wonderful and even with 5+ years, I still have gratitude and pride I am here writing of this freedom instead of mugging grandmas for fags. I do suggest to new folk that you take some time to look through our FAQs as they are full of helpful information on how to get and stay smober. But most of all, feel free to jump right into the conversation and add to our collective wisdom!
